Hundreds of people have been seen leaving their businesses and walking down Rivonia Road due to an alleged bomb scare in Sandton.

There is a heavy police presence including police vans, the bomb squad and fire trucks.

A fire truck was present on scene.

An Alexander Forbes employee who wished to remain anonymous said, “[We] were told by our safety officer to evacuate the building. We were told to walk up Rivonia Road and make our way down 5th to a safety point.”

Earlier Gautrain users were unable to access the entrance, and Rivonia Road was closed but has since reopened.
