UPDATE: Body of baby reportedly found in dustbin in Buccleuch

BUCCLEUCH - Part of the road closed off after the apparent discovery of a body of a baby in a refuse bin on Jane Road.

The body of an apparently premature baby boy was found in a dustbin in Jane Road in Buccleuch on 27 October.
Duma Tactical armed response officer Sizwe Hlongwane said he was doing a patrol around 7am that morning and was called by urban waste miners in the area to a dustbin where he discovered the baby.

“I was quite shocked when I saw the child because this has never happened to me before. I called the police and they arrived on the scene around 8am,” said Hlongwane.

He said the baby was probably born prematurely and guessed that the mother of the child was probably about seven months pregnant.

“I would guess that the body could have been in the bin for about two days before we found it. The child was naked and not in any plastic bag,” he added.

Police were on the scene when Sandton Chronicle arrived and were investigating the matter. People from the forensics unit were also doing investigations at the scene.
