Assault charges against political activist and former television presenter, Shaka Sisulu, were withdrawn at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.
On 20 September, during his brief appearance, Prosecutor Wessels Schiebler told the court that the complainant (Lerato Sedi) and the accused had a successful mediation.
On 12 Augusts, Lerato Sedi laid common assault charges against Sisulu at the Sandton Police Station, alleging that Sisulu had allegedly assaulted her at his home, after having an argument about child maintenance.
Sedi is Sisulu’s ex-lover and they have a three-year-old child together.
Magistrate Liesel Davis told Sisulu that charges against him were withdrawn.
After Sisulu, the duo refused to speak to the media and said they will issue a media statement.
In a short statement Sedi said, “After much reflection, I have decided to withdraw the charge against Shaka Sisulu. It was a misunderstanding and it is in the best interest of my marriage that we put this matter behind us. It was never Shaka’s intention to cause me any physical harm.”
