WATCH: Engen Pitch&Polish competition names Joburg winner

JOBURG – More than 400 entrepreneurs were given a platform to sell their business ideas and received valuable feedback.

Masego Mohajane was named this year’s regional Engen Pitch & Polish Joburg entrepreneurial competition and workshop winner at this year’s 8th annual event held in Braamfontein on 9 September.

More than 400 entrepreneurs attended the event and through a selection process, Mohajane, co-founder of M-Squared Medical based in Midrand, was one of the five contestants who was chosen to pitch her business.

Lizelle du Toit and Naomi Meerkotter attend the Engen Pitch & Polish entrepreneurial training and workshop.

The workshop and training are developed by Raizcorp in collaboration with Engen Petroleum, Nedbank, SAfm and Caxton Local Media. This year it was facilitated by the renowned motivational speaker Justin Cohen.

The entrepreneurs were taken through unique, experience-based entrepreneurial training on the best method of presenting their businesses to potential investors. The platform is designed to give participants the opportunity to have their ideas brainstormed, tested and challenged.

Mohajane came out the winner on the day after convincing the judges, Mntu Nduvane of Engen, Regina Gounden of Nedbank and Raizcorp’s Dave Mills, about her business methodology.

Mohajane won R6 000 and moves onto the next round of the competition. Lebohang Molapo of Online Tutorial Platform and Naughty Maluleka of Soweto Chicken Farming were named second and third winners of the competition respectively. Molapo and Maluleka walked away with R4 000 and R2 000 to help build their businesses.

Morgan Lengolo raises a question during the workshop organised by Engen Pitch & Polish in Braamfontein.

Mohajane said this was the first time she had presented her business in front of such a large audience and was humbled by the support. “This will definitely open many other doors for my business to grow and achieve its objective which is to ensure adequate medical equipment supply to the needy,” she said.

“Being an entrepreneur is not easy and through the Engen Pitch & Polish competition I will be able now to compete with other multinational businesses.”

Mohajane will next compete against other regional winners and the final will be held in Joburg on 30 November.
