Sandton residents and drivers have taken to social media to voice their anger at a man who allegedly intimidates and frightens female drivers.
People spoke out on the I Love Fourways and eBlockwatch Facebook pages to voice their concern over the lack of action from police.
The man reportedly stands at the robots on the corner of William Nicol Drive and Republic Road and refuses to move out of the roadway, hitting and spitting on cars.
Night Guard Security operations director, Zaine Eblen said the man is nicknamed ‘the juggler’ and was known to have held a screwdriver to one of his client’s throats when they refused to tip him.
Eblen said the same man has also been accused of spitting in the face of a driver. “We dealt with him in February and handcuffed him and handed him over to police, but did not follow up on the case as it is for the police to manage. I have heard that he is back in full force again,” said Eblen.
Julie van Moerkerken, who drives past the intersection each day, said all four of the women in her office in Rosebank had encountered this man on their way to work.
“You don’t have to do anything. He has spat on my car twice and also punched my car once. My husband called the police in Sandton and Randburg, but they refused to open a case without the full name of the man. He doesn’t damage your car with his punch, but it is very scary,” said Van Moerkerken.
“This is disgusting and intimidating behaviour. He always targets women and is very aggressive.”
Warrant officer Mmakgomo Semono, spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, said police would send undercover cops to monitor the situation if they receive a number of complaints.
“People must make sure they know the name of the officer who assists them when they report the incidents. Then they can follow up and reference the officer and escalate the issue if necessary,” said Semono.
