JOBURG – Primestars Marketing is providing solutions to youth unemployment through their Step up 2 a Start Up programme, which is in its fourth year.

Primestars Marketing is providing solutions to youth unemployment through their Step Up 2 A Start Up programme, which is in its fourth year.

The programme encourages young people from grade 9 to 11 to submit business proposals with the focus on social entrepreneurship. The company calls on young people from across the country to look at the ever-changing world, identify challenges around them and find solutions using the tools provided for them through the Step up 2 a Start Up programme.

Parents need to teach their children to manage their own money

On 6 July, this year’s programme was launched at The Ballroom in Montecasino with special addresses by Small Business Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu, Gauteng premier David Makhura, and international businessman and author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki.

Participants have been asked to find innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social and environmental problems centred on the theme of Seeking Opportunity, Connecting People and Creating Sustainable Value.

These youngsters will officially begin their Step Up 2 A Start Up journey on 12 August when they view the movie titled Vukuzenzele, which will be screened at 15 Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationwide over a period of five weeks. They will also receive toolkits to assist them in implementing the skills learned through the film and developing their business ideas.

In the second phase of the programme, they will compete in an entrepreneurial competition by submitting their business models to a panel of industry professionals and sponsors. At least nine top business models will be identified and selected teams will be invited to a boot camp in Johannesburg to polish their skills as they think about developing a business based on the ideas submitted. The boot camp will conclude with a prestigious gala dinner and an awards ceremony.

Primestars believes that given the correct assistance, the youth will be able to create and develop new businesses which will have a positive impact on the economy and reduce unemployment.
