UPDATE: Police confirm Audi R8 driver is from the Western Cape

SANDTON - The driver of an Audi R8 was shot at and then drove to a nearby clinic to have his wounds treated.

UPDATE: According to media reports, it is believed that the victim of the shooting incident was a suspected gang boss, from Cape Town, Ralph Stanfield.

Sandton Police, however, could not confirm or reveal the identity of the victim of the shooting at this time.

According to Captain Mavela Masondo, provinsial police spokesperson, the identity of the victim cannot be confirmed at this stage. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. The motive of the shooting is still unknown.

“We are investigating a case of attempted murder. The victim is in a serious but stable condition and we couldn’t obtain a statement from him yet. We can confirm that the victim is from the Western Cape.”

INITIAL REPORT: The driver of an Audi R8 sports vehicle was shot in the upper body while driving earlier today.

The shooting took place in Melrose, near the Athol offramp.

According to Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, the driver heard gunshots and then realised that he was the target.

Police investigate the crime scene.

Mothapo said, “The driver was then shot by the assailants and he managed to drive away from the gunfire. He drove to the Morningside Clinic to have his gunshot wounds attended to. As he drove into the clinic, the driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with three other vehicles at the clinic.”
