Ramaphosa emphasises the need for leaders with high moral standards

SANDTON – Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted our country's need for leaders with integrity, on Thursday night, when he was handed a Lifetime Achievement Award at Regenesys Business School.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted our country’s need for leaders with integrity. He was handed a Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday, at Regenesys Business School.

Head of Regenesys School of Public Management, William Vivian, said the award was presented to Ramaphosa because he is an extraordinary leader who has made an outstanding contribution to socio-economic development and lived a life of high moral and ethical standards.

Ramaphosa said that receiving the award was a humbling and frightening honour. “This award for leadership is not recognizing the innate qualities of one person but the contribution by many people to nurture a leader,” he said.

Ramaphosa shared about what he believes makes a good leader, emphasising the importance of leaders possessing a high moral compass.

“We need leaders who care about others [and display] honesty, integrity and truthfulness at the time when the country is faced with different challenges. An institution like this is a key pillar in the moral regeneration of our country.”

He listed examples of problems like the burning of the town hall in the Free State recently as evidence that the moral fibre of our country is fraying at the seams. “We need leaders who seek to do things ethically and with integrity and honesty to regain moral rectitude,” said Ramaphosa.

He reiterated that the country faces a number of difficulties at present and challenged ordinary South Africans to be the ones to find solutions. He also emphasised the need for young leaders who are are not greedy, but who are able to lead with honesty, to move the country forward.

Media personality DJ Sbu (Sibusiso Leope), who addressed the audience before Ramaphosa took to the podium, said that he looks up to leaders like Ramaphosa. He added that South Africa will be in safe hands when Ramaphosa passes on the baton to the youth to lead the country forward.

Regenesys founder and chairperson, Dr Marko Saravanja said, “South Africa is going through a difficult time politically. I hope he [Ramaphosa] will lead our country to a new beginning of regeneration, just in case we drop the ‘deputy’. We all have the dream to build this country and restore its glory,” said Saravanja.
