JOBURG – He's a legend and you want to see him? Check out three places in Johannesburg where you can see the late, Nelson Mandela.

 

The late Nelson Mandela is revered by people across the globe, and while most did not get the chance to meet him, you can still see him in Joburg.

Nelson Mandela touched the lives of millions of people and many of them would still like to connect with the struggle icon even though he has died.

Approaching Mandela Day on 18 July – and really on any day – people have the chance to check out monuments and statues that have been erected in honour of Mandela.

Not his house in Soweto or the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Braamfontein. We have three exciting points of interest in Johannesburg where you can see the stalwart in all his life-like glory.

Sandton City Mall has one of the largest statues of the icon, in a place that has been aptly named, Nelson Mandela Square. On the square, the public can enjoy a bite to eat, calming fountain waters and the opportunity to take a photo with the great statue of Madiba – a serious tourist attraction.

The Shadow Boxer is the well-known sculpture of the anti-apartheid activist, placed between Chancellor House and the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Fox Street in Johannesburg. At almost six metres tall, the sculpture is modelled after a famous photograph of Mandela.

The large, unmissable painting on Juta Street in Braamfontein is one of the places to see the smiling face of Mandela while enjoying a stroll on the precinct’s trendy streets or on a rooftop enjoying some artisan food.
