The Rotary Club of Sandton recently hosted its annual sports day for more than 100 youth and adults with intellectual disabilities at the Field and Study Centre in Parkmore.

The special guests for the day came from six schools and care centres including Irene Homes, Novalis House, Bona Lesedi, Forest Farm, Tshegofatsong Special School, Cresset House and Cluny Farm.

The Rotary Club of Sandton, a non-profit community service organisation, has hosted this fun day for more than 20 years and once again partnered with Special Olympics South Africa.

The organisation was assisted on the day by youngsters from the interact clubs of Roedean School, Redhill School, Crawford College Lonehill and Crawford College Sandton who volunteered on the day and participated in inclusive, Unified Sports activities alongside those with disabilities.

The day’s events included activities such as athletics, soccer, volleyball, bocce, tug of war and a magic show. Another highlight of the day were the Steel Wings, Rolling Thunder and Midrand Harley-Davidson biker clubs who gave the special guests rides around the grounds.
