Dumping eyesore cleared at William Nicol and Sandton Drive

SANDTON – Pikitup responds to the eyesore of illegal dumping on William Nicol Drive.

 

Pikitup, the waste management company of the City of Johannesburg has cleared the illegal dumping site which was a health hazard and an eyesore at the intersection of William Nicol and Sandton drives.

The affected residents in the area had alerted Pikitup about the existence of the illegal dumping site.

Pikitup managing director, Lungile Dhlamini said, “Clearing illegal dumping is an expensive exercise and is not sustainable in the long term. We call on the community to be vigilant and report illegal dumping incidences to the authorities to prevent its recurrence.”

Dhlamini said Pikitup was in the process of putting effective measures in place to completely eradicate illegal dumping in the future. He added that it cost the City of Johannesburg R569 million per annum to clean street littering and to clear illegal dumping sites.
