Street pole campaign to celebrate cancer survivors and encourage health responsibility

JOBURG – A campaign will commemorate those who have lost their lives to cancer and those who are currently fighting cancer. Find out more here.

A new street pole campaign organised by cancer survivor and founder of the Forever Changed Global Awareness Campaign, Addi Lang, will take place throughout June in Rosebank, Bryanston, Sandton and Fourways.

World Cancer Survivor Day is celebrated on 4 June and Lang said the campaign would be in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer and would celebrate those who continue to fight cancer.

Lang hoped the campaign would encourage others to take responsibility for their health and make healthy choices for their bodies.

“It’s about understanding the choices that you have; each and everyone of us should know our health rights and know our choices about our health and take responsibility for our health,” said Lang.

Lang, who has been a cancer survivor for three years, said that when she was first diagnosed with cancer she did not think to seek alternative opinions about her diagnosis.

She hoped that the campaign would encourage others to seek alternative health remedies that may better suit them.

Lang will host an event on 4 June which will broadcast a documentary she produced. The documentary, Forever Changed, explores all the choices and treatment options that are available to cancer patients.

“When you’re buying an outfit for a function, you shop around. In a corporate environment, you have to get three quotes for anything so why don’t we do the same for ourselves,” Lang added, “It’s in your best interest to make an informed decision.”

Lang’s partner and co-founder of the Forever Changed Global Awareness Campaign, David Salomon has done extensive research on nutrition and alternative treatments for cancer.

Salomon said, “It is important to raise awareness of alternative treatment options that provide people with a choice.”
