Five passengers are taken to hospital following a collision in Sandton

SANDTON — Five passengers including a pregnant woman are taken to hospital following a collision between a car and minibus taxi in Sandton.

A car and a minibus collided on the intersection of William Nicol and Sandton Drive in the afternoon of 9 May. Netcare 911 dispatched paramedics to the reported collision.

Upon arrival, paramedics assessed and attended to several people who were involved in the accident and stabilised the injured. Several employees from a nearby retail store in the shopping centre were in the minibus taxi at the time.

Netcare spokesperson, Nick Dolman said, “A total of 5 adults including a pregnant female were transported by ambulances to different hospitals for further medical care. Two of the injured had sustained moderate to serious injuries and were in significant pain prompting paramedics to administer analgesic medication before they could be moved.”

Rush hour traffic negatively affected the area, as one of the lanes on William Nicol and another in Sandton Drive were obstructed by the vehicles involved. This resulted in a longer backlog and delay than normal. Fire fighters from the local Sandton fire station also attended the incident.
