An immigrant’s take on our roads

FOURWAYS – Peter Austin from the UK talks about his experience on local roads.

Kyalami resident Peter Austin, originally from the UK, writes:

I am from the UK and I currently live in Kyalami and the company where I work is situated on the R55.

On my short journey to work in the morning, I experience so many instances of appalling driving that I get really concerned – one day someone is going to kill me.

People need to learn to drive properly, not cut the corner when they go round it, not go over the line when waiting at junctions, to slow down when they approach junctions so that they can stop if the light goes yellow and not block junctions in traffic jams.

So many people are dying on the roads here and no one seems to realise that they are all responsible for the state of utter lawlessness they have reached [here in South Africa].

They should try going to other countries in Europe to see what it is like where the rules apply.
