Weekly crime successes in Sandton

SANDTON – The Sandton CPF and Sandton Police Station have released the latest crime statistics for the Sandton area.

 

The Sandton Community Policing Forum (CPF) has released the current crime trends and statistics for the Sandton area.

According to Anthony Modena, chairperson of the Sandton CPF, the current trends in the area involve theft out of motor vehicles in the Sandton business district and all the shopping centres.

He said, “Smash-and-grab incidents take place mostly in the evenings on Witkoppen and Grayston drives.”

Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station said, “Forty-two people have been arrested for various crimes in Sandton.”

Successes last week include:

  • 13 for possession of drugs
  • 6 for shoplifting
  • 8 for theft
  • 1 for armed robbery
  • 6 for trespassing and theft
  • 2 for GBH
  • 1 for fraud
  • 1 for intimidation
  • 2 for possession of stolen goods
  • 2 for housebreaking and theft.

Modena added to the arrests as, recently, there have been several convictions. One for murder, house robbery and business robbery all of which received a sentence of 15 years in prison.

Other convictions include:

  • Three years for assault
  • Two years for robbery
  • One year for assault.
