More than 200 arrested for drunk driving

SANDTON – The Metro police arrested more than 200 people over the Easter weekend for driving under the influence.

 

About 815 people across Johannesburg were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol over the Easter weekend.

This, according to Wayne Minnaar, spokesperson for Metro police who said, “Many roadblocks were held daily and at night in Johannesburg this past Easter.”

Minnaar said a total of 206 people were arrested during the weekend in Sandton.

Included in the 815 arrests, the operations directorate for Region B, which includes Sandton, made 22 arrests.

The tactical directorate Sandton tracing, which are specialised units and freeway patrol units made 184 arrests.

Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station said, “Forty-four people were arrested for DUI as a result of joint operations between the South African police and the Metro police.”
