“They had scarves around their mouths and knew exactly where they were going,” said Jean-Marc Cassette, manager of Bellinis, Illovo. “One [suspect] was outside and the other came while I was standing at the till so I thought he was going to come to me and demand money. I even got the till ready to comply with him.”
Instead, the armed man walked directly to a table of customers and demanded their wristwatches. “They didn’t want cash, cellphones or wallets. They only wanted the watches and they were expensive watches,” Cassette said. On eblockwatch on Facebook, Alex Protulis who had been sitting at the targeted table wrote, “A thug with a gun stormed in and targeted someone at our table for his Breitling watch. Also stole another patron’s Rolex.”
Cassette also added that after the robbers left, both the police and a private security company were contacted. “The police have already taken statements and left. Someone mentioned to me that it was what they referred to as the ‘Rolex Gang’. I don’t know how true that is; I’ve never heard of it until today.”

Initial report: 21 April 2017, 4pm – According to reports, an armed robbery took place at a local shopping centre in Sandton earlier this afternoon.
EWN reported that a group of men followed a woman into the Sorbet nail salon in the Athol Square Shopping Centre and demanded that she give them her jewellery. It is believed that no one was injured during the robbery.
Police and security guards are currently on the scene of the crime. Further details on the incident are unclear at this stage.

EWN also reported that it is believed that the men were involved in another store robbery earlier today.
According to a facebook post in the eblockwatch group, a member posted, “Was at Bellinis in Illovo having lunch when a thug with a gun stormed in and targeted someone at our table for his Breitling watch. Also stole another patron’s Rolex. Same thugs hit the Sorbet in Athol Square minutes before. Fortunately no one hurt in either incident.”
