Members of Hyde Park-based Headway Gauteng were treated to a fun-filled day at St Stithians College and a performance of marimba songs by the boys’ college.
Danielle Michael, an occupational therapist of Wits University, helped organise the event for the members of Headway Gauteng, a registered charity organisation which offers support programmes to acquired brain injury survivors.
“We were planning an outing for the attendees, and being a past Saints girl I thought the marimba band would be a great idea as it’s something the attendees can get involved in, and the music is stimulating,” Michael said.

Michael Sibanda, marimba director at St Stithians College, exuded passion on the day and got everyone in the room clapping and dancing.
“Anyone can play Marimba,” he told attendees, as he proceeded to teach his class a few notes. By the end of the class, he had everyone dancing and even making up their own dance moves.
The day was concluded with a scrumptious lunch under the shady trees of St Stithians.
This event comes at a very important time for those suffering from serious head injuries, as people around the world come together during March to raise awareness of brain injuries.
The organisers of the event, Danielle Michael and Lara Clarkson thanked the St Stithians marimba band and Knead Bakery, Michelangelo for sponsoring the food for the event.
