Unbeatable chess players from Sandton

SANDTON – Crawford College Sandton chess team has a reputation for being almost impossible to beat.

The Crawford College Sandton Chess team has a reputation of being almost impossible to beat with them having won against every school they have played against so far.

Nina Gardiner (Grade 11), Joshua Wolpe (Grade 12), Noa Gardiner (Grade 8) and Michael Gooding (Grade 11) recently competed in the four-a-side High School Chess League held at Dainfern College and their performance was nothing short of exceptional.

Three of the four players in the team, namely Nina, Joshua and Noa, have provincial status in the world of South African chess. Last year’s team comprised a different roster, with the only common players being Nina and Joshua.

There may have been questions as to how Crawford would maintain their standing as part of the best of the best. However, the two new members, Michael and Noa, proved to be fair replacements and have individually held their ground, winning against all of their respective opponents since the start of the league. As it is nearing its conclusion with the last match being held on 14 March, anyone watching can only be proud of the young and talented chess players as they go on to be the top three among the group.
