Savoy Estate resident represents Mrs SA

HOUGHTON — Savoy Estate resident takes on Mrs South Africa pageant.

For many women of a certain age, the dream of representing your city in a prestigious beauty competition seems just that … a dream.

Mrs South Africa, however, is not your typical beauty pageant, it offers married South African women – who have real-life careers, families and hobbies – the chance to compete for the prestigious title of Mrs South Africa.

Glamour and sophistication are some criteria, but the women who enter are smart and ambitious and very much care about family and community. Jaysh Sunker is one such woman and will be representing Savoy Estate in Houghton for the upcoming Mrs South Africa beauty pageant. Sunker said, “To even consider entering the Mrs SA pageant was a huge step for me which allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things.”

Sunker was born in Durban, raised in Effingham Heights and came from very humble beginnings. After matriculating in 1998, she had to make a decision as she could not afford tertiary education, so she moved to the big City of Johannesburg at the tender age of 19.

Sunker said, “I arrived in Joburg with just a suitcase and nothing to my name. Within a few weeks I found myself a temp job and from there on I studied part-time and now I am a senior development manager at Nedbank Group Technology. “

Wife to Satish Sunker for over 11 years and mother to two beautiful children, Ethan (10) and Aryn-Jade (5), she is excited to represent Savoy Estate in the upcoming pageant with the grand finale on 6 October.

“I entered the competition in January and was notified I was a semi-finalist in March; it truly has inspired, empowered and most of all given me so much self-confidence. This journey has taught me to remain humble, be brave and to always be the best version of myself.”
