Valentine’s blood drive success

BRYANSTON – The Making A Difference committee from the National Realtors Group succeeded in hosting their very first blood drive with local businesses.

The Valentine’s Day Blood Drive, hosted by the Making A Difference committee from the South Africa National Realtors Group (NRG) in Sunninghill in partnership with the South African National Blood Service, took place on 19 February at Hamilton Park in Bryanston.

Marli Hoffman, director of The Little Ashford Preschool Bryanston; and Ashleigh Muller, principal of The Little Ashford Preschool Bryanston.

Dog-lovers and families from around the area rolled up their sleeves and did their part to give back to the nation. “After the hard work arranging this community event, it was a wonderful sight when I saw all the donors in such good spirits,” said Gert van Zyl, a member of the Making A Difference committee and the realtor group’s agent.

There was a show of great support by a total of 60 potential donors, even though only 45 donors were permitted to give blood. “It was truly the most amazing and friendly experience meeting all the dedicated donors and so many first-time donors,” said Van Zyl.

James Gresty and Gert Van Zyl are members of the Making A Difference committee.

Many local organisations played their special part in the blood drive. Riverside Liquors provided water and juice to all community members who participated, while New Beginnings Pilates instructor Sam Fernandes da Costa provided a free pilates session to donors.

Bub Hub Sandton gave away vouchers to the first 10 donors. “It was a great morning out with our community,” said Chantal Rodrigues of Bub Hub Sandton. “We had an awesome time meeting new moms, so thank you NRG, we’ll see you next year.”
