Sandton gardener steals from colleague, recieves suspended sentence

ALEXANDRA – Sandton gardener steals from co-worker and is sentenced in court.

A former gardener at a Sandton residence was found guilty of theft by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment wholly suspended for five years.

The accused, Augustine Mphamba, in his 20s, admitted to stealing shirts, pairs of trousers, jackets and a bicycle tyre from a co-worker.

The victim left his room locked one day in January and on return found the items missing but with no sign of a break-in. The victim reported the incident to the homeowner and police officers were called to the scene. The accused was questioned by police and admitted to the theft.

All the stolen items were recovered.
