The Amdec Group, owners of Melrose Property Development, contributed once again to the fight against rhino poaching by donating R250 000 to SanParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) on 1 February.
This brings the total donation given by the Amdec Group and its partners to R500 000 over the past two years. The funds will be used to purchase vital equipment for the rangers in the Kruger National Park. The equipment ranges from basic supplies such as water bottles to high-tech night-vision tools.
The fundraising initiative, Save Our Rhino, was made possible by Amdec’s chief executive John Wilson who decided to support rhino conservation.

Wilson roused the much-needed support from business partners and customers to contribute to the campaign. Wilson has channelled raised funds through the Conservation Services National Project of the SanParks Honorary Rangers.
David Webster, the SanParks Honorary Rangers National executive committee vice chairperson said, “This is an official volunteer organisation in support of SanParks.”

Janssen Davies, former national chairperson and a member of the SanParks Honorary Rangers Conservation Services committee said, “Every cent raised will be used where it counts and is needed most.” He added that funds are needed to fight against poaching, not only the poaching of rhinos but of elephants and lions as well. Davies acknowledged the generous contribution given by Amdec as stepping up the fight against rhino poaching and having a positive influence. He also added that much more still needs to be done to save the rhino from extinction and guarantee they are conserved for future generations.
