Junior College Sunninghill’s first visit to the library

SUNNINGHILL – Grade R's visit kick off the year with a visit to the library.

The start of school is a great time to introduce children to the public library. The Grade R class of Junior College Sunninghill spent the morning at the Rivonia Public Library, learning all about books.

The Grade Rs enjoyed an exciting story read to them by the librarian. They were also introduced to library cards and how the library system operates. Each child had the opportunity to take out one book and stamp it, on their own, which they will read in class at school.

The class explored the library looking for fascinating books to share with their teachers and friends. They were taught how to handle books carefully and flipped through the pages with their friends. Some Grade Rs enjoy books with pictures, while others enjoys ‘big people’s books’ with no pictures.

It’s going to be a busy few days for the Grade R teacher to go through all the stories while the children should be intrigued to find out what their story is all about.
