Ward 109 shines bright

SANDTON – Ward 109 receives much-needed repairs to streetlights.

Cable theft has plagued Ward 109 in recent years and streetlights have become a soft target for thieves looking to make a quick buck.

Ward 109 councillor Werner Smit is working with the City of Johannesburg to manage and repair damaged electrical infrastructure in his ward. “I am very pleased to inform the readers and residents of Ward 109 that the streetlights in Gousblom and Violet Crescent have been restored. Due to vandalism over the past few years, these lights had fallen in total disrepair. Most of the cabling and light fittings were looted for use in illegal electrical connections,” he said.

City Power has now rewired the poles and installed new light fittings and overhead cabling spanning from pole to pole. The new streetlights will add to the security of residents living on these two streets.

Smit concluded his message by urging residents to report any new acts of vandalism and theft to police and City Power.
