Homeowners warned not to get their fingers burnt

SANDTON — Robbers recently robbed Sandton properties by pretending to be Eskom workers, or to be officials sent by Ford to fetch faulty Kugas.

Sandton police have warned the community about con men who pose as Eskom or Ford employees to access their properties and rob them.

This follows an incident in which a suspect stole a Ford Kuga after telling the owner he was from Ford, and that he had been sent by the automobile company to pick up his vehicle following the recent nationwide recall of faulty cars.

Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for Sandton police said, “The modus operandi is that the people will come to the house dressed like Eskom officials who have come to fix the electricity. This usually happens when the domestic workers are home alone.”

Once they gain entry into the property, the con men proceed to steal items from the house. “Before granting anyone access into the property, the community should always verify the identity of the person and contact the company in question if there are any doubts,” he said.

Mothapo added that the community must phone Sandton police if they notice anything suspicious.
