Sandton police have cause to celebrate

JOBURG - Sandton police made 181 arrests during the festive season.

 

Sandton police enjoyed various successes during the festive season when a large number of arrests were made.

A total of 181 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from attempted murder and house robbery to theft and murder.

Police spokesperson Constable David Mothapo said burglaries had increased because residents left properties unattended while on holiday.

He detailed some of the arrests, “We arrested two suspects for attempted murder, three suspects for aggravated robbery with firearms and three arrests were made in connection with house robberies. Another 23 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs while four suspects were arrested for the possession of stolen vehicles.”

A total of 50 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and eight people were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. “There were also arrests made for theft, fraud, shoplifting and malicious damage to property.”
