Ward 102 updates

SANDTON – Ward 102 councillor David Potter would like to keep his residents in the loop.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter would like to update his community on the latest news in his area.

He highlighted, “To run a ward requires constant attention and oversight to ensure delivery of services. A ward is like a puzzle, every piece is an important one. ”

He said that he would like to thank all of the organisations yhat assisted him in his work throughout last year. “[Thank you to] associations, street committees and individual residents doing their bit to improve their suburb or street.”

He added that he is very grateful to his ward’s committee, City officials, the police and other residents who have gone above and beyond to assist others in the area. “2016 was a momentous year in the City of Johannesburg with the DA taking control of the City.”

He believes that the question on the minds of many residents is whether or not the party has made a difference in the few months that they have been in power. He answered this question by saying, “Well, to put it bluntly, the DA has inherited a mess in terms of processes, wasteful expenditure, lack of service delivery and major corruption. You name it, the Executive has had to deal with it… To say that no change has been achieved would be wrong.”

He stressed that Ward 102 is unique in that it has a number of functions operating within it including two taxi ranks, the largest sports complex in the city, one of the largest ‘all in one’ municipal offices, including an account query centre, a licence renewal office, a learner’s licence testing centre, a health clinic and a library.

“The JRA has started the securing of the embankments of William Nicol near to Peter Place, including installing more storm water drain inlets. A few roads were resurfaced in Blairgowrie and Bryanston. The mammoth bridge in the Randburg CBD at the corner of Jan Smuts and Bram Fischer Drive was removed.”

He explained that although a lot has been achieved, there is still much to be done. “I am acutely aware of some basic service delivery issues not being addressed adequately such as grass cutting in parks and along main arterial roads, the reinstatement of tar and kerbing, tree pruning and much else.”

He concluded that he would like to encourage every resident to continue to Look & Log any issue they see, and if such issues are not resolved in a reasonable time, then escalate them to the relevant ward councillor in an appropriate manner. “Taking into account the above, hurling written abuse and making threatening phone calls will not help assist in making Johannesburg work.”
