With the festive season looming and Christmas bonuses soon to be paid, Sandton Police Station issued a warning to the public to not withdraw large amounts of money at once.

Constable David Mothapo, communications official for Sandton Police Station said, “This time of year people often withdraw and carry large amounts of money with them, especially now with 13th cheques and bonuses, either for shopping or other reasons.”

Mothapo stated that people should be aware that criminals could be watching them in banks or at ATM’s. The criminals often follow people home and then rob them where they demand all the money.

“They know exactly how much cash a person has withdrawn. Always be aware of what is happening around you and try not carry large amounts of money with you,” he said.
