Scholarships awarded

SANDTON – Two Grade 7 girls have been awarded scholarships to attend St Stithians Girls College in 2017.

The St Stithians Foundation has awarded two Grade 8s with academic scholarships to study at St Stithians Girls College from next year.

The scholarships are awarded in partnership with the Standard Bank Tutuwa Community Foundation which, in 2015, commenced a partnership with the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation.

The scholarship programme assesses, screens and interviews a large number of Grade 7s from schools across South Africa.

Nonhlanhla Tshabalala and Lerato Mongaula are welcomed to the Saints family by Ivanka Acquisto, head of St Stithians Girls' College.

According to Bev Johnson, deputy head of advancement, “The scholarships are generous and cover the students’ schooling for five years at selected partner high schools across the country. From around 3 000 applications received each year, about 40 to 45 scholarships are awarded.”

The Standard Bank Tutuwa Scholarships have been awarded to a total of 12 Grade 7 schoolchildren, together with 30 scholarships awarded by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation.

“Nonhlanhla Tshabalala and Lerato Mongaula, both of whom are academically strong and gifted all-rounders will start their high school careers with us next year. Nonhlanhla currently attends Dawn Park Primary School and Lerato is a student at Kingsway Christian School,” said Johnson.

“One and all welcome the Tshabalala and Mongaula families to the St Stithians Community,” concluded Johnson.
