BRYANSTON – A suspect was shot in the knee by a security guard following a home invasion.

An alleged robber was injured following a shootout with private security after a house robbery in Bryanston.

The 64-year-old homeowner was having lunch outside his house when he was accosted by three suspects who told him to keep quiet.

Constable David Mothapo, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station said, “The victim was forced into his house where they found his domestic as well. Both their hands and feet were tied up with cable ties, after which they demanded the keys to the safe and threatened the man.”

The suspects ransacked the house and took a plasma screen, jewellery, cellphone and the man’s wedding ring.

The suspects fired at the security guards who returned fire, injuring the driver in the knee. “The two other suspects ran away on foot, while the driver collapsed outside the gate and was arrested.”
