Buccleuch Residents Action Community had a successful year

BUCCLEUCH – After a successful year the Buccleuch Residents Action Community thanks everyone for their support and assistance.

The Buccleuch Residents Action Community (BRACe) has achieved a lot in terms of looking after the community’s safety, security and environment in the area.

Chairperson, Dumisa Dlamini said, “In the last year BRACe has been working hard to look after the suburb’s infrastructure, council’s service delivery, and building and maintaining a thriving community.”

Dlamini spoke of some of the highlights of the year. “The BRACe’s contribution to safety and security, the environment, infrastructure and to the community. We ensured improved security with facilitating the erecting of a fence along the N3, continually reported faulty street/traffic lights and identified abandoned properties which may house criminal activities and reported it to the police.”

In terms of the environment, Dlamini said they secured Bridge Road Park to prevent illegal dumping, facilitated City Parks’ tree planting in Buccleuch and submitted a petition with 375 signatures to the City Council to raise the low-lying bridge on Bridge Road, and also continuously informed residents of happenings to ensure they did not negatively impact them.

“The BRACe contribution to infrastructure included engaging Eskom’s executive office on the incessant power outages in certain parts, holding public meetings with residents to inform them on the smart meter rollout, and affecting the remedy of poorly timed traffic lights along Old Pretoria Road.”

Their contribution to the community was a charity drive for Village Safe Haven and bringing the latest news to the community via various platforms.

She extended a heartfelt thank you to her hard-working team, Ward councillor Bongani Nkomo, and everyone who had generously offered their time, money and energy to serving the community. “It has been an inspiration and a privilege to work with such passionate and committed souls.”

Dlamini concluded, “To everyone in our community, may you enjoy a well-deserved break over the festive season, safe travelling for those going away and may you all experience quality time with friends and family.

“Let’s join hands in 2017, clean up the appearance of our suburb and make Buccleuch an example to South Africa of what can be achieved by working together and making a difference. We look forward to another year of building community and getting things done. Thank you again for your participation and support.”
