WATCH: Mulder stars for the Lions

JOBURG – Schoolboy impresses at domestic level for the bizhub Highveld Lions.

St Stithians Boys’ College pupil, Wiaan Mulder has once again reaffirmed why he is one of the rising cricket stars to look out for this season.

Mulder took outstanding match figures of 7/64 in his Sunfoil Series debut for the bizhub Highveld Lions against the Cobras.

Following up on his impressive debut, Mulder sliced through the Dolphins batting order in his second first-class game as he

claimed figures of 7/25 in 11.3 overs at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

Lions coach, Geoffrey Toyana has described Mulder as an exciting prospect and definitely one of the players to watch this season. The 18-year-old and South Africa U19 captain has been labelled as a modern day all-rounder.

He walked away with the big awards in his age group at the Cricket South Africa awards when he was awarded the Coca-Cola U19 Cricketer of the Year, Coca-Cola Schools T20 Cricketer of the Year and Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week Player of the Tournament.

St Stithians College cricket director Wim Jansen praised Mulder for leading by example.

“Wiaan is a great example to the boys. He has reached the top of schoolboy cricket, but is still humble,” he said.
