EFF opens criminal case against Gupta family

JOBURG – EFF leadership opened a case against the Gupta family, President Jacob Zuma's son, Duduzane and all Gupta linked companies at Rosebank Police Station.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leadership opened a criminal case at the Rosebank Police Station against the Gupta family (specifically Atul, Ajay and Rajesh Gupta), President Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane (who, according to the EFF is the president’s proxy in Gupta-led businesses), and all Gupta-linked companies.

According to a statement released by the EFF, the criminal case they opened relates to the prima facie evidence contained in the affidavit of Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan’s application to the High Court filed on 14 October.

“The minister’s application reveals information already hinted [at] by the banks that the Gupta family and its businesses are involved in money laundering, racketeering and gross corruption that is robbing South Africa of billions of rand. The immediate amount that’s been illegally and suspiciously transferred is R6.8 billion and it is clear that this amount is just the tip of the iceberg,” reads the EFF statement.

In the statement, the EFF said that they believe a thorough criminal investigation – which should be defined by cooperation of the banks, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), the National Treasury, Lanseria Airport staff members, and many others – will reveal the extent and depth of the Gupta’s alleged criminal syndicate which, they said, is in the process of drying up South Africa’s resources.
