UPDATE: Paramedics confirm death of 16 year old

HURLINGHAM - A child was crushed and killed between two parallel parking along Sutherand Avenue in Hurlingham on 30 September.

Update – 5.15pm

Police spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi said, “The pupil who passed away is from a school in the West Rand. The pupils came in buses to Sandton to deliver a memorandum at George Lea.”
“After delivering the memo, they went back to their buses parked on Sutherland. There were 2 buses close together on side of road. There were learners in both of the buses at the time of the incident. The deceased was between the buses and for some unknown reason the buses rolled forward. The boy was declared dead at the scene,” said Mogodi.

Mogodi added police cannot confirm allegations of a twin brother and that the investigation is ongoing.

Update – 3.25pm

Netcare911 Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said paramedics arrived on the scene and found the victim between the two buses.

The male victim, who is roughly 16 years of age, was declared dead on the scene. They currently waiting for the fire department to assist in removing the body.

Initial report – 3pm

It is believed that a child was killed after being caught between two buses. One of the buses was attempting to parallel park when it pinned the child against another parked bus.

Police are currently at the scene. The child is believed to be dead.

According to a Sandton Chronicle journalist at the scene, the bus driver is no where to found. Police attempted to to free the body by moving the bus themselves but couldn’t access the vehicle.
