The gift of breath

SANDTON – A Buccleuch Primary pupil was given the opportunity to live a more normal life by a kind philanthropist.

Children can be given all sorts of toys and gifts to make them happy – but one child only wanted the gift of breath.

Six-year-old Buccleuch Primary pupil, Ayaan Bhoopal was given an extraordinary gift – oxygen.

Bhoopal suffers from a heart condition and numerous other health-related issues that make it difficult for him to function normally. He is, therefore, reliant on a portable oxygen machine to breathe. Were it not for the kind heart of a philanthropist, Bhoopal would not know what it is like to go to school, play with other children and live a normal life.

His giver and saviour, Roshni Rajdhar, heard about Bhoopal’s heart condition through her son and was determined to assist this little boy.

“Alister is best friends with Ayaan’s brother, Akhil. He mentioned to me that it was Ayaan’s dream to go to school but it was impossible as he had to be permanently home-based for him to be connected to his oxygen tank.”

She explained that when she got home from the holiday, she contacted Bhoopal’s mother Seshma Bhoopal and arranged to meet her. “I immediately decided that I will sponsor the mobile oxygen machine that was imported from the USA to enable Ayaan to achieve his dream of going to school, and more than anything for me, was for him to lead a carefree life like any normal kid playing and mingling with other kids.”

She highlighted that her personal dream was to make the dreams of others a reality.

“I visited Ayaan recently at his school and was most amazed to see him happily playing with other kids on the playground with his mobile oxygen tank attached as a backpack. Just seeing this happy child brought… joy to my heart.”

She stressed that through all of the very trying times, Bhoopal’s mother had remained an inspirational, strong woman. “Credit must be given to his [mom’s] unwavering ability of being an exceptional super mom and for not giving up and always doing her very best for little Ayaan, her full-time job and her family.”

She concluded that Seshma was a ‘super-powerful soul’ that amazed her continuously.
