Help karma yoga

SANDTON – Charitable yoga instructors need the community to assist them in giving underprivileged children a year-end party.

Karma yoga refers to a selfless, caring act done for another.

The charitable yoga lessons given by Sandton residents, Sarah Hedding and Tamlyn Cohen were reported on in the article, Children Enjoy Karma Yoga, Week ending 29 July. The pair give special yoga classes to underprivileged pupils at Build the Future Preschool in Kaya Sands.

Cohen explained, “Our yoga foundation is called Ombuntu. This word has been especially derived and has a lot of meaning. ‘Om’ refers to the universe and our creator and the term ‘ubuntu’ relates to having humanity towards others. These two words were used to derive Ombuntu, which is a yoga township project focused on the universal consciousness towards others.”

The yoga duo would like to complete the pupils’ school year with a lunch on 25 October and are appealing to the Sandton community to assist them.

Hedding said, ”We like to finish the year off with something special for the pupils at Build the Future and want to spoil them as they have absolutely nothing. We will be throwing our annual end-of-year celebration on 25 October.” She stressed that they needed assistance with entertainment at the lunch and would appreciate any donations of a jumping castle, generator, splash pool, face paints and ice lollies.

Hedding and Cohen promote health and well-being and a lot of emphasis is placed on feeding pupils nutritious meals. ”In terms of the lunch, we would appreciate any monetary donations. We will be making a huge vegetable curry for the entire school and any hungry community members who pass by, and will finish off the meal with a cake,” said Hedding.

Community members can also become involved by offering their time and support on the day. ”It’s great to have extra hands for face-painting, splash pool fun, handing out lunch, taking photographs and general festivities for the pupils.”
