Go commando for prostrate cancer

JOHANNESBURG – The Prostate Cancer Foundation launches awareness campaign.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa launched its Go Commando prostate awareness campaign.

The foundation aims to raise awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of age-appropriate screening. This is the first year of the campaign and individuals and companies are encouraged to purchase stickers for their male and female employees for R20 each.

On 16 September, participants should ‘go commando’ and wear the sticker instead of underwear to show support for the cause.

Iain Johnston, director patient affairs for the foundation said, “I think the most important information to men is annual check-ups, including the digital rectal information. Early detection of prostate cancer results in a very high success rate of treatment.”

The foundation said although many men did not experience any symptoms, the symptoms listed below may also be linked to other causes.
