Buy a Tube of Hope
JOBURG – Tubes of Hope, or Topes, can be bought at various stores nationwide to help support The Sunflower Fund.
The Sunflower Fund has created a new signature campaign, Sunflower Day, which will take place on 16 September.
To help support Sunflower Day and The Sunflower Fund, people can buy the new Tube of Hope, or Tope, from Pick n Pay or one of the fund’s retail partners.
Alana James, The Sunflower Fund’s CEO, explained what a Tope is. “It’s an affordable, multipurpose article of clothing that can be worn as a headband, mask, scarf, cap or armband,” she said.
It is available in six different colors and can be bought for R20 for a small or R25 for a large. It is on sale from August Pick n Pay stores nationwide, Round Table, selected ICPA Pharmacies and the online store Zando.
The Tope will also be an integral part of the fund’s schools competition.
“For the first time ever, The Sunflower Fund is offering a first prize to the value of R20 000 to the school that shows the greatest Sunflower spirit on Sunflower Day,” said James.
“Take photos of your class – or even your whole school – doing something creative with the Topes, upload them to The Sunflower Fund’s Sunflower Day Schools Competition Facebook page gallery and get your family and friends ‘liking’ your entries.”
The prize will be a donation of goods of the winning school’s choice, up to the value of R20 000. The second prize is up to R10 000 and the third prize is R5 000. The prizes have been sponsored by the SABC Foundation.
Sunflower Day will replace Bandana Day that previously took place in October.
The Sunflower Fund is a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness, educating the public and handling the registration for people to join the South African Bone Marrow Registry.
