St Stithians alumni rakes in awards

SANDTON - A St Stithians College alumnus has made history by winning a record six awards at the Cricket South Africa banquet recently.

Kagiso Radaba is the first cricketer to win so many awards at this prestigious ceremony. He won for SA Cricketer of the Year; Castle Lager Cricketer of the Year; Castle Lager ODI Cricketer of the Year; SA Players’ Player of the Year; SA Fans’ Player of the Year; and RAM Delivery of the Year.

“We are immensely proud of this young man – not only for his achievements, but also for the young man he has become, and the fact that he keeps in regular contact with his alma mater,” said Dave Knowles, head of St Stithians Boys’ College.

Radaba is not the only St Stithians cricket player to receive high accolades from CSA. Wiaan Mulder, a current student and captain of the Coca-Cola U19s, won three awards for Coca-Cola U19 Cricketer of the Year; Coca-Cola Schools T20 Cricketer of the Year; and Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week Player of the Tournament.

Knowles said that they are also very proud of Wiaan’s achievements, particularly as he managed to do all this in his matric year and also led the 1st XI to the National T20 Championships.

St Stithians cricket coach Wim Jansen said, “There are many coaches who play their role in getting them to where they are and we congratulate them all.

“It has been another wonderful year for cricket at St Stithians College and we are immensely proud of the way our athletes have played the game and the humility they have shown as they have achieved great heights.

“We look forward to seeing what the future holds for them.”
