Sandton makes their vote count

SANDTON - The spirit of democracy was in the air on 3 August when residents queued to vote at the many voting stations in Sandton.

Ward 102 councillor, David Potter, who set up a Democratic Alliance (DA) stand at St Stithians College in Bryanston, said he felt optimistic.

“It feels nice to be back here as I matriculated at St Stithians. It is great to see all of the people who have come out to vote and have their voices heard. I am feeling optimistic”

Shirley Paadi, an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporter who set up her party’s table at the school said, “I am feeling proud and positive today and it is so encouraging to see all of the people who have come out to vote today. I am feeling excited and all of the voters look so positive today.”

Another voting station at Bet David Shul, Morningside was also buzzing as voters came together to make their voices heard.

Marcus Howard, who came to Morningside to cast his vote said, “This is the second time that I have voted. Today, I am voting for the land. I don’t want to be one of those people who just complain. I am voting to make a change in my country.”

Also at the Morningside-based voting station was Bongi Nxumalo who is from the African National Congress (ANC) party and hopes to be voted as Ward 103 councillor.

“Today is a big day and local government elections is in your hands,” said Nxumalo.
