Petco awards recyclers

SANDTON – Petco presented awards to people who made extraordinary contributions in the recycling of post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate.

 

Petco, a recycling company focusing on the recycling of post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (Pet) bottles and products, held an awards ceremony at their Annual General Meeting held at The Venue Green Park in Sandton.

The awards were presented to individuals, businesses and organisations which made extraordinary contributions to the recycling of post-consumer Pet products during last year.

“At Petco, we believe that our greatest asset is our network of partners – those that give up their free time and work long hours, to get the job done,” said Petco chief executive officer, Cheri Scholtz.

A total of 13 awards were presented to winners in nine categories including best male and female ‘Pet-trepreneur’, the Petco recycling champion and the best product using recycled Pet products.

“We were so impressed with our nominees this year that, in some instances, choosing between them for a clear winner was impossible. Instead, we chose to highlight all the nominees as, besides their contributions to Pet recycling, they all work tirelessly to uplift the communities within which they operate, which we believe is worth celebrating,” explained Scholtz.

“Petco believes the future of South Africa will be shaped by individuals such as these who have received awards here today; passionate, committed people who are led by intuition and fed by imagination as they re-write the rules, whilst creating a better South Africa for us all.”

The winners and their awards were as follows:

  • Lephalale municipality – Pet Recycling Local Authority Initiative Award.
  • Woolworths Holdings Limited – Best Product Using Recycled Pet Product Award.
  • Coca-Cola Southern Africa – Best Product Designed for Recycling Award.
  • Megan Leach of Envirowaste Recyclers (Welkom) and Nomlindelo ‘Pinky’ Modisang of Lindithando Construction and Projects (Walkerville) – shared the Women Pet-trepreneur Award.
  • Gcina Makhoba of Mpilenhle Recycling (Mpilenhle) and Brian Masemola of Boremako Recycling (Pretoria) – shared Male Pet-trepreneur Award.
