Community tidies up streets

SANDTON – Ward 102 councillor David Potter organised a clean-up in Bryanston and became inspired to create a community forum in the area.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter decided to arrange a community service activity for Mandela Day.

He orchestrated a clean up of a busy street in Bryanston and this has inspired him to arrange more projects in the area.

“The clean-up originated from a need to do something in the ward for Nelson Mandela Day,” he said. “Residents and businesses came out and cleaned the islands of Peter Place [Road] between Brian Road and William Nicol [Drive].

“What has sparked is a need to create a Peter Place Business Forum to get all the office parks, shopping centres and schools along Peter Place talking and working together.”

Potter added that Peter Place Road was a major arterial route and said it was a matter of concern that the road currently had no streetlights.

“[Peter Place is] also in need of a forum for everyone to talk and work together to tidy up. I will be calling a meeting towards the end of August for all the interested and affected stakeholders of Peter Place and will alert the Sandton Chronicle of this date so that the readers can be made aware.”

He was very proud of the Mandela Day efforts. “In total, we removed around nine bags of weeds, small trees, cigarette nibs and removed illegal graffiti.

“Peter Place is now a pleasure to drive on. Thank you to Coachman’s restaurant and Coachman’s Crossing Pick n Pay for the generous donation of labour and refreshments.”
