Eyesore cleaned up
SANDTON – The Department of Education has cleaned up a piece of land that a resident previously described as a 'neglected eyesore'.
An abandoned piece of land in the Bryanston area had enraged residents earlier in the year.
In the Sandton Chronicle article, Neglected land in beautiful suburb, it was explained that this piece of land in Bryanston is owned by the Department of Education. It was described as a ‘neglected eyesore’ by an anonymous resident.
The Department of Education’s acting spokesperson, Oupa Bodibe said at the time, “The department has over 1 000 vacant sites and cleaning takes place four times a year. We are engaging a contractor to clean this specific site before the end of June. We are also engaging with the municipalities to also assist us in keeping the site clean at all times.”
The aforementioned statement, given to the Sandton Chronicle two months ago was accurate because the piece of land was cleaned just before the end of June and no longer looks neglected as the grass has been trimmed.
Ward 102 councillor, David Potter said, “Numerous residents have sent me thank you messages.” He had repeatedly reported the issues of this neglected land to the department and was instrumental in ensuring that a clean-up took place.
A resident sent an e-mail to Potter on behalf of the trustees and residents of the Bryanston Court Houses. She wrote, “Not only does the grass cutting make our vicinity look neat and cared for, but it certainly removes a sure fire hazard during the dry months. David, your consistent hard work does not go unnoticed.”
