Proud2bME provided a list of ideas that could be used to treat every day as Mandela Day.

In light of the recent Mandela Day activities, Proud2bME encouraged people to treat every day as Mandela Day. The organisation believes that people should move beyond the traditional 67 minutes of good-doing on 18 July and instead devote themselves to year-long projects of positive action.

The organisation provided a list of 25 ideas that could be used by families, colleagues and community members to help keep the spirit of Mandela Day alive throughout the year.

Some of those ideas include:

  • Live with a positive attitude and give your children and your community something great to imitate.
  • Help cook and serve a meal at your local homeless shelter.
  • Visit an elderly person at a local retirement home and make it a habit or weekly or monthly pattern.
  • Co-ordinate a local park or bench clean-up.
  • Donate toys to your local children’s hospital.
  • Co-ordinate a holiday toy drive to donate to local foster children.
  • Paint a mural over a graffiti-covered wall.
  • Donate your old books to a local school or library.
  • Plant flowers to brighten up your neighborhood.
  • Become an organ donor.
  • Bake cookies and bring them to your local fire or police station.
  • Have a lemonade stand and donate the money to a local charity.

These are just a few of many ideas that community members can enact in order to keep the spirit of Mandela alive throughout the year.
