Local entrepreneur is cream of crop

MIDRAND – Small business owner celebrated for outstanding achievements.

Midrand resident, Kholisile Khumalo, has good reason to be excited.

His business, Mzansi Scuba Diving Academy was one of 46 small businesses chosen to participate in the Tholoana Enterprise Development Programme out of 2 000 applications received countrywide.

His academy, situated at the International Business Gateway in Midrand, provides quality training to prepare candidates for careers in the maritime sector and other services in the diving fraternity. Khumalo was recognised as a high performing candidate who caught the eye of a team of business growth professionals following stringent criteria.

A rigorous selection process included desktop reviews of the online applications followed by telephonic assessments, attendance at a workshop, and site visits to business owners’ premises.

Bridgit Evans of SAB Foundation, a funder of the programme, said, “We were impressed at the remarkable range of talented people applying for the Tholoana programme. Each one is clearly passionate about making a success of their business. This shows the fabulous potential of small entrepreneurs who are committed to making South Africa work.”

Catherine Wijnberg, chief executive officer of Fetola, the implementing partner of the Tholoana programme, congratulated Khumalo. She said, “I’m thrilled that we will get to work with Mzansi Scuba Diving Academy to successfully grow the business. “We will provide [the academy] with wrap-around support including our specially personalised mentoring, workshops, e-learning and investment readiness preparation.
