Get talking about Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Storage

JOBURG - The programme works with families wishing to store their new born's umbilical cord blood stem cells for a member diagnosed with a life-threatening disease that can be addressed using stem cell treatment.

Community members has the power to save lives and can do so by joining the national conversation about umbilical cord stem cell storage.

This can be done by ensuring that more community members are aware of the new treatment options which are emerging for critical illnesses such as multiple sclerosis and leukaemia.

“If you can do something extra to help ensure your child will have a better chance at a healthy and happy life, why wouldn’t you do it?” The most important thing for any parent is to know their children are safe, by storing their stem cells, you have the peace of mind of knowing they will have a much better chance of being eligible for current and future stem cell treatments that could one day save their life and that is a very valuable investment to make,” singer and renowned entertainer, Kurt Darren said.

Darren and his wife got involved in the ‘Save 3 Lives’ by making the decision to store their child’s stem cells long before the birth of their child, little Kyrah. They felt this was a valuable form of insurance for her future health.

The ‘Save 3 Lives’ campaign gives families facing serious illnesses the chance to explore stem cell treatment, even if they cannot afford it, which is a game changing concept that needs community members’ voice.

Cryo-Save, South Africa’s stem cell storage pioneer, is reaching out with the public’s help, to make sure that all pregnant families have access to evolving stem cell treatment, regardless of their financial situation.

“You, the ordinary South African, can save a life. It is as simple as that. If you engage with the ‘Save 3 Lives’ campaign and talk to your friends and our partners about stem cell storage you will have played a vital part in identifying families in need, and taking action to help them,” Louis Rehrl, Cryo-Save Managing Director said.

Cryo-Save South Africa operates as part of Europe and Africa’s largest private human umbilical cord stem cell bank, the Cryo-Save Group.

The company gives families the opportunity to save their newborn child’s umbilical cord stem cells. Stored cells can then be used to help develop treatments, using the latest medical advances, for family members impacted by a range of severe diseases, including Sickle Cell Anaemia and some forms of blood cancers, among many others.

When a family member is stricken with a serious disease, saving the stem cells of a younger brother or sister offers a precious ray of hope for treatment, today and into the future. A sibling has a one in four chance of providing a perfect match for his or her sibling of either gender, but the storage process is beyond the financial reach of many.
