SA’s malls and retailers take the lead in new age of shopping

SANDTON - The 20th South African Congress of Shopping Centres will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 7 to 9 September.

The landmark 20th South African Congress of Shopping Centres (SACSC) is set to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Sandton from 7 to 9 September.

With the retail and property sectors contributing most to South Africa’s economy, the theme of this year’s congress, Lead, is particularly fitting.

Amanda Stops, chief executive officer of SACSC said, “The congress will showcase the latest insights on leading trends, technology and customer engagement. It is also a meeting place for industry leaders, current and future, as well as leading retailers and brands.

“The programme responds to the tremendous opportunities and challenges retailers and shopping centres face in light of rapid change, new ways of using technology, economic forces and evolving consumer expectations.”

For its 20th congress, the retail sector’s annual flagship event promises to offer everything it has become synonymous with including the latest in innovation and information around shopping centres, retailing and consumer trends, globally and locally.

The industry-defining gathering will also provide exclusive access to a superb line-up of presentations by some of the world’s brightest minds covering the industry’s burning topics. In addition, the congress will also feature an exciting exhibition, many networking opportunities, the announcement of esteemed industry awards and behind-the-scenes shopping centre tours.

This stimulating event has consistently grown in popularity over the past 19 years with the number of congress delegates multiplying each year.

The congress attracts a wide range of industry professionals who come from Southern Africa and further afield and include stakeholders such as investors, developers, marketers, merchandisers, designers, analysts and strategists.

Stops said, “At this significant congress with its wealth of industry-leading market intelligence, we aim to highlight the leading role shopping centres and retailers play in communities, the economy and, in fact, in our country. We also want to encourage and inspire leadership for the future. Now is the time for our industry to take its rightful place in the economy and continue to lead with positive social and economic impacts for South Africa.”
