Bryanston Library

BRYANSTON - The Bryanston Library invites residents to make use of their facilities.

Bryanston Library is located on the corner of New and Payne streets and is easily accessible from Main Road and William Nicol Drive.

Margaret Houliston, library and information services manager for Region E would like to invite residents to make use of the Bryanston Library’s services. “The library is open to all members of the public,” she said.

“Membership is required in order to take books out on loan, and a basic membership can be obtained at no cost, but you will be required to produce either your identification document or passport, plus proof of address. Membership takes five days to process.”

She added that the library offered a children’s story hour on Wednesdays from 2.30pm as well as the first Saturday of the month at 11am, and offers a separate section for adults and children.

The library also receives three daily newspapers and one Sunday paper. Free WiFi is available.

Each library has its own Friends of the Library which are voluntary groups that raise additional funds for the library. “Friends of Bryanston Library [FOBL] was formed in March 1998 to raise money to buy books for the Bryanston Library,” said Juliet Manning, chairperson of Friends of Bryanston Library.

“FOBL members donate an annual amount of their choosing, and together with income derived from monthly FOBL book sales, we buy the latest books for the exclusive use of our members. After a minimum of six months exclusive use, and after all outstanding reservations have been satisfied, the books are donated to the Bryanston Library.”

Library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 9.00am to 6.00pm; Wednesday from 1pm to 6pm; and Friday and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. NOTE: During the winter months of May, June, July and August, public libraries which usually close at 6pm will close at 5.30pm.
