Shifting perceptions of cancer

FOURWAYS - An event was held to encourage cancer sufferers to live out a healthier lifestyle.

The Dance of the Butterfly event is designed to make residents stop and think about their life choices, particularly when they suffer from cancer.

This event was held at Montecasino in Fourways on 26 June

In the Sandton Chronicle article, Dance of the Butterfly spreads the word, the Forever Changed campaign was explained. This campaign is aimed at educating cancer sufferers that they have a choice when it comes to the treatment of their disease.

Sandton-based Addi Lang is determined to spread the message of this campaign and refers to the messages of the movement as a ‘global warning’. The Forever Changed campaign is done in conjunction with Dance of the Butterfly events and incorporates the arts into the production.

“During the exciting event at Montecasino, guests were entertained by celebrity Forever Changed ambassador Paulinah Somo, best known as the traffic reporter and overnight talk-show host on 702,” explained Lang.

She elaborated on the campaign and said that the Forever Changed Global Awareness Campaign, that launched at a press conference in October 2014, carries a strong message. “The campaign encourages the understanding that there are alternative treatment options for newly-diagnosed [cancer] warriors. The campaign has gained a global following over the past 18 months and took me 12 months to complete the Forever Changed Documentary which is a roadmap for newly-diagnosed warriors and caregivers.”

She said that the next chapter is no longer about the terror and problems that she personally encountered during her struggles with cancer. “It is now going to be about the butterfly effect that is spread by ambassadors, followers and supporters around the world who understand the message of service above self.”

Christa Schamberger, a well-known casting director in Hollywood, sent Lang a testimonial based on her perceptions of the campaign. Schamberger wrote, “Having known Addi for the past 20 years and having now seen the Forever Changed Documentary where Addi says she was frozen from fear on her diagnosis, we see the impact that the Forever Changed Global Awareness Campaign [has]. It is clear that Addi has risen above her circumstances to be unfrozen to encourage others with her message of hope through informed decisions and choice.”
